Facebook are pretty helpful to helping you optimise your business through their platforms – This is how they describe Business Manager:
“Facebook Business Manager is a free tool developed by Facebook to allow businesses and agencies to securely manage their company’s Pages, ad accounts, catalogs and pixels in one place, without sharing login information or being connected to their coworkers on Facebook.”
As a small business owner, Business Manager allows you to manage one or multiple Facebook pages. You could just have your own page, or you could manage several as a Social Media Manager for example. It accumulates everything in one place.
Why do you need Business Manager?
If you want to run ads using the full Ads manager (not just boosting) then you need to set up business manager and create an ads account.
What’s useful as a beginner?
You own your page but you can add others to help manage your page as you grow – Employees, admins, ad managers and anyone you need to help update and manage financial information.
Create Audiences to be used in your Ad Campaigns. Create Custom, Lookalike or Saved Audiences and see an overview of all your audiences to see the potential reach
Events are things that have happened on your website e.g. viewed a page, initiated checkout, added to cart & purchased etc… It relies on a piece of code that links your website to Facebook called the ‘pixel’.
You can then use these ‘events’ to create targeted ads. You can target people who have already purchased something from you so you could push a new product or target anyone who abandoned the checkout with an offer to try and get them back.
This is where you can create ads instead of boosting from your page. You can set up specific campaigns, set your audience and choose where your ads will be placed. The analytics in here allows you to see how much you have spent and how your ads are doing and if they have been worth running!
If you have the Pixel set up this gives you insights into who has visited your site from Facebook, what they did and how much they spent. It’s similar to google analytics if you have seen that. It contains lots of useful information to use to create your audience e.g. Age, gender & device used.
How do you set Business Manager up?
- Go to business.facebook.com/create and select Create Account.
- Enter your name and confirm your identity with Facebook login credentials.
- Follow the prompts to create your business account.
Once you get in there you will be prompted further but heres some important steps to take
1. People and assets – If its just you, don’t worry but if you need to add anyone else in you can do so in People – Pop in their email address, assign the role e.g. Just access to the page, ad accounts or full admin.
2. Link your Instagram account – You will need to do this if you want to run ads on both platforms
3. Create a new Ad account – you will be prompted through. Add a time zone, currency (GBP)
